Adult Volunteers work on Tuesday mornings from 7:45 AM until approximately 9:15 AM or Tuesday evening from 6:15 PM until approximately 7:45 PM. These volunteers work in distributing the food to the guests under the direction of the Support Team. These volunteers also restock the shelves and clean up.
LOCAL GROCERY STORE DONATIONS
Adult volunteers transport donations from Wal-Mart or Hy-Vee once a month to the Food Shelf. Wal-Mart pick-ups take approximately 2 hours on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday afternoon. Wal-Mart volunteers must be able to lift 50 pounds. Hy-Vee pick-ups take approximately 1 hour on a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning. The amount of food donations varies.
In addition to Wal-Mart and Hy-Vee, we have weekly Monday pick-ups from Fareway and The Markt. They each take approximately 1 hour.
Volunteers are needed to sort, date check and restock donations. We are also in need of occasional volunteers to help unload food from the Central Iowa Food Bank in Des Moines or local food donation drives. There is also a need for help maintaining the organization of the freezers and coolers. Volunteers 5 Years and up are welcome to help in this capacity.
If interested in volunteering, click to sign up below, or email the volunteer coordinator. If you cannot sign up or email, please call the PCFS phone at 641.780.1779 and leave a message.
Drop off donations inside The Pella Community Food Shelf.
The Peanut Pub, Pella Hy-Vee and Wal-Mart also have drop boxes inside their entrances.
