In addition to collecting food, Pella Community Food Shelf sponsors other programs to assist those in need.
Pella Community Food Shelf in partnership with Faith Christian Reformed Church provides the Backpack Program. The Backpack Program provides kid friendly food to children over the weekend and times when school is not in session. This program is available at Madison, Lincoln, Jefferson and Pella Christian Grade School. Families must meet the same requirements as the free and reduced lunch program. For more information, contact school location counselors or Sherry Groenenboom at Faith Christian Reformed Church, 628-1335.
Financial contributions are appreciated and can be made to Pella Community Food Shelf, P.O. Box 465. Please write Backpack Program in the memo line. Thank you!
Through the help of local churches we collect school supplies for each grade for Pella community, Pella Christian and Home Schooled students. Our goal is to have all items needed for each grade to be put in a backpack for the first day of school. We hand out all supplies in late July or early August.
TURKEY BOX DISTRIBUTION
Through the help of local churches we are able to collect enough food to make a "a traditional Thanksgiving dinner" to give to those who utilize the food shelf. We distribute the turkey box the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
